Connect to Mobile Internet: Get More Done Faster

In today’s high tech, fast paced and frenetic world, there never seems to be enough time to get everything done, let alone stop and smell the roses, and while the paperless office is still a dream, some of the new devices and technologies that are coming into common use are not only giving us more time, but are also turning those dreams into reality!

Mobile Broadband while still a fairly new technology has really transformed the way in which we work and play. The Internet cannot be considered anything but essential in today’s world and by enabling us to access this resource wherever and whenever we choose, Mobile Broadband has opened doors that have long been considered closed for good.

Connecting to the Internet

Through the use of a fairly simple and effective USB Dongle, laptops and Netbook computers are easily able to access the Internet without having to worry about wires and with both Pay As You Go (PAYG) and contract options available, there is a package to suit every need. Tablet PCs are able to access Mobile Broadband networks through the use of a Micro SIM card and while Mobile Broadband speeds currently are not comparable to Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet speeds, as work continues on the networks and infrastructure underlying Mobile Broadband, not only are the speeds expected to increase but the coverage also!

Road Warrior

One of the greatest changes that Mobile Internet has helped to launch is that of the remote worker. With a laptop and a VPN token it is now possible to connect to your corporate network as if you were in the office. In addition these encrypted connections are significantly more secure than the old ways of connecting to your networks allowing you to transmit and transfer the most sensitive of files!

In addition, with more and more applications being accessible via “the cloud” you are able to take advantage of these technologies while on the road which can only make you even more productive.

Not all Fun and Games

If Mobile Broadband only improved your ability to work, it would not be nearly as successful as it is. Having access to your friends and family through social networks like Facebook and Twitter ensure that you are never far away from the information that is important to you and while reading what is going on is important, having the ability to interact in real time via your Laptop or Tablet PC is even more so.

Of course, if the only way in which you could get online was via a Laptop or Tablet PC the number of users would be significantly lower than it is. With the Smartphones currently on the market and being developed, and app libraries growing daily, accessing the Internet is significantly easier now than it ever has been. While Smartphones are not ideally suited for office activities, for gaming and social activities they are just the ticket and with their pocket sized dimensions they are always at hand allowing you to do what you want, when you want and how you want!

    Hi Hutch (and Saksham),

I recently read Tim Feriss’ book “The 4 hour workweek” where he explains that very soon most employees will be able to work from home. The “mobile” employee will connect to his office pc through “GoToMyPC” software and similar services. As you say, with a laptop and a VPN token it is now possible to connect to your corporate network as if you were in the office.

I am guilty of using these mobile broadbands but to me it is a necessity as I cannot be wired all the time. The mobility that comes with these dongles are heaven sent because I cannot imagine myself without a connection even just for one hour. True, we already have a huge collection of smartphones that can surf the web but nothing beats the computing power of good ole laptop or netbook.
