Google Images Gets A Makeover – New Look, New Features!

As we can see Google from time to time launches new products, new features or updates its existing features. Be it, it’s main Search Engine or Adsense, Adwords or Analytics Google updates it all in fact you can call it upgrading!

Google constantly adds new features in its already feature rich system. And the giant is back with a n update again! This time its for Google Image Search. The giant has rolled on many new features in its image search. The new image search is not looking cool, but super cool!

Lets have a look at its features.

  • Dense Tiled Layout: Shows all the images close to each other. This allows us to have a look at many images all at once saving our time.
  • Instant Scrolling: Google Image Search now boasts of instant scrolling. It allows us to move between pages without clicking on any link. This allows us to see images uninterruptedly. Though this may be problematic! Suppose if you see an image in Google image search on page 14. For some reason you plan to download it later, but when you go in page 14 next time the images will start loading once again from starting. That means all images from page 1 to page 14 will get loaded. This will result in unnecessary wastage of bandwidth. Whereas in the old Google image search if you visited page 14 only that many images will get loaded.
  • Larger Thumbnail Previews: The search results now show larger thumbnail previews for a more clear view. This feature is most helpful when you have a high resolution screen.
  • A Hover Pane: A hover pane appears when you move your mouse pointed over a given thumbnail image. It gives you a larger image preview, more information about the image and other image-specific features such as “Similar Images.”
  • Image & Image Info: When you click on any image in the search results you’re taken to a new page that displays a large image in context, with the website it’s hosted behind it. Image information such as size, format, etc. is displayed on the right side of the page. Clicking anywhere outside the image, will transfer you to the original page where you can learn more about the image.
  • Optimized Keyboard Navigation: Standard keyboard shortcuts like UP & DOWN are now enabled in Google image search. This helps us navigate faster.

I like the new Google Image Search interface. Its really cool and offers great features! Though I’m not in favor of some features which have been rolled out in this update, overall this new look is satisfactory!

Apart from the changes in Google Image Search, they have launched a new ad format called Image Search Ads for their advertisers. These ads appear only on Google Images and nowhere else.

As always these features are live on Google.Com Image Search. Within a couple of days these features will also be rolled out in other Google Image Search local interfaces worldwide.

Features are superb but however loading that much images at once is the worst. It’s painstaking for slow net-connection users…
